You will express your loyal-tah!

California State University East Bay has fired a math teacher after six weeks on the job because she inserted the word “nonviolently” in her state-required Oath of Allegiance form.

HT to How Appealing

I hate loyalty oaths. I was forced to sign one when I was a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Florida. In all honesty, I considered telling them to shove it. However, at the time I lacked the courage to do so. I was broke, it was my job, so I signed it.

I simply can’t see the purpose of a loyalty oath. There are no repercussions for falsely signing one. You can change your mind after signing it, and what if your belief in upholding and defending the constitution requires you to act in a disloyal manner toward your employer or toward the state?
