The city of Largo, Florida has voted to terminate its city manager because he has decided to have trans-gender surgery.
I have no ability to understand what happens inside a person’s head that makes them want this kind of surgery. Yes, I must admit, the thought of it makes me uncomfortable. I would definitely need some counseling myself if one of my friends or family members announced that this was their plan. But, the way I see it, that is my problem and not the hypothetical trans-gendered person’s problem.

Steve Stanton professed his love for the city and asked the people of Largo to support his decision to undergo a sex change and allow him to keep his $140,000-a-year job as city manager. To his sorrow, the answer came back no.
Almost 500 people packed City Hall on Tuesday night for a special meeting to decide if they would accept someone named Susan instead of Steve as their top official. And while many spoke eloquently in his defense, more called for his ouster.
“If Jesus was here tonight, I can guarantee you he’d want him terminated,” said Pastor Ron Saunders of Largo’s Lighthouse Baptist Church. “Make no mistake about it.”
As difficult as it may be for me to wrap my head around this issue, and as much as it makes me uncomfortable, it is far less inexplicable and freaks me out a lot less than people who flip their wigs over it.
How does it diminish any member of the public in Largo if its city manager has trans-gender surgery, breast augmentation, a pierced nether region, or any other cosmetic surgery?
I figure it this way, if someone is actually contemplating having their gender changed, perhaps the emotions that Jesus would want (and I claim no right to speak for Jesus Christ, but I am just guessing) would be compassion, acceptance, and love.
I’d like to know exactly how in the hell Pastor Ron Saunders has any clue what Jesus Christ would want, and I’d really like to know when Jesus got into the municipal employment field.
Maybe, just maybe, this city manager is going to hell for what he has done. I take no position on that. Well, I do… I find it very difficult to reconcile the thought that “The Prince of Peace” would hate anyone, condemn anyone, or think that anyone should be fired. Well, I take that back. If Jesus were to get involved in a human resources issue, I am certain that he would chime in that Pastor Saunders should be terminated from his pulpit.
When you hear a pastor claiming that the son of god would have a position on a human resources issue, you’re listening to a fraud and a snake oil salesman. Anyone who subscribes to this superstitious bigotry deserves the misery that they find at the end of that path of intolerance, hatred, and lies.
