Sexual Politics

Finally, after years of injustice, Genarlow Wilson is a free man. Wilson, an honor student and football standout was 17 years old when he had consensual oral sex with a 15 year old girl. For that, a low-life Georgia prosecutor decided that Mr. Wilson belonged in prison, and...

The recent story about an S&M practicioner's untimely, and unfortunate, demise has garnered a lot of media attention, and some snarky guffaws in the blogosphere. I won't link to the snarky -- as this is a sad story, not one with any room for gloating. However, here are...

DAYTONA BEACH -- Attorneys for Lollipops Gentlemen's Club said Thursday they will take their fight against the city's anti-nudity ordinance to the U.S. Supreme Court. At the same time, police are gearing up to crack down on strippers and their managers who break city ordinances. The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals...

Most people are familiar with the "Voyeur Dorm" concept. As an adult-oriented "reality show," not unlike "Big Brother," a producer sets up a home with cameras all over, and the viewers can act as voyeurs -- looking in on the lives of the entertainers. In the adult entertainment context, that means watching them have sex with each other. One Miami neighborhood decided that it didn't want "that kind of thing" in their town. The city where pretty much everything goes doesn't want "cocodorm.com" operating in its residential neighborhoods. After a marathon 10 hour hearing, the Miami Code Enforcement Board ruled that Coco Dorm could no longer operate in a single-family residence, because the neighborhood is zoned for residential use only.

I can't stop laughing at this story. Researchers at the University of Texas spent five years and their own money studying the reasons that college students engage in sexual activity. (source) Neat idea. I mean, I suppose that I always thought the answer was pretty simple. However, there were some pretty complex reasons given.
Some were "pretty shocking," [one of the researchers] said, such as "I wanted to give someone else a sexually transmitted disease." She said she also was surprised that some people said they had sex because "I wanted to get closer to God." (source)

I'm not an apologist for violent felons, but the line needs to be drawn somewhere... Consider the case of Terry Lee Alexander. Mr. Alexander has lived a life filled with bad choices. After committing armed robbery, he got himself a well-deserved 10 year stay in prison. That should be the end of the story. Now cue the calliope music that is usually needed when discussing the State of Flori-duh. Mr. Alexander, (deservedly) deprived of his freedom, his right to vote, his right to see his family, and all the other rights you surrender when you become a guest of the State of Florida, decided to exercise the one right I thought you got to keep in prison. Yes, I'm referring to good old fashioned masturbation.

The Department of Justice, protecting you from obscenity, recently indicted California resident Ira Isaacs for distributing erotic videos that are "far beyond the mainstream." Now brace yourselves. The videos have titles like “Gang Bang Horse — ‘Pony Sex Game,’” “Mako’s First Time Scat,” “Hollywood Scat Amateurs No. 7,” “Laurie’s Toilet Show,” and “BAE 20.” The spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office said, “the titles are indicative of the content of the videos.” (source) No matter what the content of these videos might be (presuming that there are no children nor non-consensual acts involved) Isaacs' attorney hits the nail right on the head:
