The GOP launched a URL shortening service, GOP.am. Within hours, pranksters were using it to create faux GOP links to bondage sites, the American Communist Party, etc. Initially, the GOP had a bit of egg on its face, but they seem to have hired someone over there who understands lulz. Now, any prank-link automatically brings you to a GOP “action page.”
Of course, this begs raises the question…. any time you use your bit.ly or tinyurl.com link, are you creating a link that the shortening service can later twist for its own ends?
